Professor Kehinde Kanmodi is the founding Executive Director of Cephas Health Research Initiative Inc. Professor Kanmodi is a globally recognized public health scientist, dentist, and interdisciplinary researcher with extensive experience in academia, research leadership, and policy engagement across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
Trained in Nigeria and the UK, Professor Kanmodi holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Public Health (Distinction) and PhD (thesis submitted) (Public Health) from Teesside University, UK.
Due to his extraordinary achievements in academia, Professor Kanmodi rose to professorial rank at the age of 33 years in Cambodia (Asia), which made him the youngest professor in the Asian country. Currently, he holds two Professorships in Public Health at two Nigerian universities. He is also a Senior Collaborator with the Global Burden of Disease Collaborators at the University of Washington, USA, and Executive Director of Cephas Health Research Initiative Inc (Cephas), Nigeria—a non-profit research organization he founded in 2016 to advance evidence-based health policy and practice. As at today, Cephas is the second leading corporate research organization in Nigeria and the 31st in Africa, according to Nature.
Professor Kanmodi has over 330 peer-reviewed publications, over 14,000 citations, an h-index of 29 (on Google Scholar), and has contributed to numerous high-impact papers published in The Lancet, Nature Medicine, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, BMC Public Health, BMJ Global Health, PLoS ONE, among others. He has also supervised several higher diploma, undergraduate and doctorate students in Cambodian, Nigerian, and Rwandan higher institutions. His research interests span global health, oncology, digital health innovation, and academic-industry collaboration.
He is a recipient of multiple competitive academic grants and awards and has reviewed grants for prestigious funders such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Science for Africa Foundation and serves on editorial boards of international journals including BMC Public Health, PLoS ONE, and Health Science Reports.
As a passionate advocate for industry-academic synergy, Professor Kanmodi has led multiple collaborative projects bridging research, innovation, and sustainable development. And due to his high level of international engagement, Prof. Kanmodi has granted several international interviews to international media/health organizations and has delivered several lectures across several countries. Of recent, he delivered an invited lecture, under the auspices of the President of Egypt, at the 2023 African Health ExCon Cairo.
